(ANSA) - MOSCOW, APRIL 26 - The Moscow prosecutor has suspended the activities of the activist offices of the Russian opponent jailed Alexiei Navalny and asked the Moscow court to introduce "interim measures in the form of a ban on certain actions" against the Anticorruption Fund and of the Fund for the Defense of Citizens' Rights, both linked to Navalny, but the court has not yet examined these latest requests: the Interfax agency reports, citing the court office.
Previously, several Russian media had announced the suspension of the activities of Navalny's organizations, including the Anti-Corruption Fund and its "successor", the Citizens' Rights Fund. According to the court, "the question of the prohibition of the activities of NGOs falls within the competence of the court" while "the question of the prohibition of certain acts of a public movement falls within the competence of the prosecutor's office".
"The activities of the offices of Navalny and the Anti-Corruption Fund were immediately suspended", the director of the Anti-Corruption Fund Ivan Zhdanov, reprimanded by the AFP, wrote on Twitter.
The offices of the activists of Navalny, the Anti-Corruption Fund and the Fund for the Defense of Citizens' Rights are accused of "extremism" by the prosecutor, according to which they would like to "create conditions for the destabilization of the social and political-social situation". Many observers consider these accusations to be political and aimed at repressing dissent. (HANDLE).
