In 2018 Rolling Stones bassist Ron Wood announced that he was healed.

The lung cancer was defeated after a long operation that removed parts of his lungs.

But last year came the shocking news: cancer is back.

Wood now told this in an interview with the British daily "The Sun".

This time it was a so-called small cell cancer - a less common, aggressive type of cancer that affects the lungs in many cases, but can also occur in other organs or the lymph nodes.

In the middle of the pandemic, the 73-year-old was fighting cancer without the public's knowledge.

And he was obviously successful: "I made it and got the all-clear," says the musician.

He is healed.

He was helped by his wife Sally, 43, and their four-year-old twins Gracie and Alice.

In addition, the belief in a "higher power" gave him support - a concept that he has stuck to since his time with Alcoholics Anonymous.

“All I can do is stay positive, be strong, and fight against it.

The rest is in the hands of my higher power, ”Wood said to the“ Sun ”.

He also devoted himself to his hobby, painting, again during the lockdown and cancer therapy.

"Art got me through this - I could express myself and get lost in it," Wood said.

Some of his works are now to be sold for a good cause.

The proceeds will go to the organization "Turn Up For Recovery", which supports people with addiction problems and was founded by Eric Clapton's wife Melia McEnery.

The bassist is also already thinking about his musical art.

As soon as the pandemic is over, he wants to continue the Rolling Stones' No Filter Tour, which began in autumn 2017, with bandmates Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts.

"We're ready to go," said Wood.

And neither age nor illness would stop him.
