Announced in June 2020, App Tracking Transparency (ATT) - "Transparence du tracking apps" in French - is, according to the views, considered as a progress for the protection of privacy on the Internet or as a threat to the ecosystem of free applications.
The functionality indeed attacks the central mechanics of targeted advertising: the capture and resale of personal data.
The battle is declared
The fear aroused by the ATT is measured by the wrath of Facebook, whose almost all revenue comes from its advertising activities.
With lots of newspaper advertisements, Mark Zuckerberg's group accused Apple at the end of 2020 of wanting to put down free internet and threatening the economic survival of small businesses.
