After almost two years of absence from the screen, the fourth season of "The Story of a Slave", one of the most talked about series of recent years, will air tomorrow on HOT. The rise of the new season was delayed because of the corona - which caused the postponement of filming.

"The Story of a Slave" is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's book about a dystopian reality in which the United States became the Republic of Gilad under a totalitarian-religious regime. Among viewers and critics. Its first season won the Emmy Award for Best Drama Series, and it was an unprecedented achievement for a series that airs on streaming. The lead actress, Elizabeth Moss, scooped Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe for this role.

In the series, Moss plays John Osborne, or as she is called in the Republic: Fred or Joseph, depending on the master who is his slave. In the third season she managed to take her revolt a step further and led a smuggling operation to Canada of dozens of children of slaves. John sacrificed her freedom for the children and was left behind. One of the Republic soldiers shoots her, and the season ends with her lying on the ground and her eyes closed.

The new season features ten episodes. The first three go up together today, and the rest will go up every week. This season it turns out that not only has John survived the shooting but she continues the rebellion along with a group of lesser ones who have joined her. The goal: to unite forces with members of the underground resistance while risking their lives.

In an online panel promoting the new season of the series, Elizabeth Moss said that "this season deals with the meaning of power. Power can be dangerous and destructive. This is a significant motif in a book released in 1985 and is still relevant. I re-read it every time I work on the series.

" We never planned in advance to be influenced by current events. It's not 'Law & Order' that is inspired by the headlines in the media. American society has been through a lot in the last year, and without tying it to the plot in the series, the common denominator is our humanity as human beings. "

According to Moss," John's journey this season is a way to overcome feelings of anger. She has a strong desire to sweep the bad things aside and move forward. As if the problems did not happen and if anything happened - it should be completely forgotten. This is the connection to our reality today. These are things that I understand only in retrospect, after the filming, because as an actress I examine the character in a given situation. "

Moss, who is also one of the producers of the series, directed three episodes for the first time this season. "I felt ready for the task," she said. "After years of watching from the sidelines and learning from the amazing directors I worked with, I got a different perspective. I directed episode 3 which is one of my favorites in the series. Much thanks to the excellent script. A good script always eases the work and relieves stress.

" , So it's not something very unusual, and still directing was a different experience. The main concern as a director is that I will have something to say to the actors and how to direct them.

"On the other hand, as an actress, I know they need to be given their own space to act. At the end of the directing it became my favorite part. We have a great and rare cast, and thanks to them I came out well as a beginning director."
