Prof. Uhor Sahin, CEO of the German company Biontech, which developed the Corona vaccine together with Pfizer, said today (Wednesday) that he believes there is a "good chance" that Pfizer's vaccine protects against the Indian variant.

According to Prof Sahin, based on the assessments of social scientists, he is "confident" that the vaccine is also effective against him, as he has demonstrated efficacy against the British variant, among other things.

He added that scientists would test the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Indian variant in the lab within two weeks, explaining that the genetic changes in it were "known to us from other mutations."

So far, according to Sahin, about 30 different mutations of the virus have been tested, and even in cases where the immune response was reduced, it was "sufficient," he said.

"The vaccine is cleverly constructed and I am convinced it is resistant to the variant. In any case, if we need to update it, we will do so - so I am not worried," he added.

Since the onset of the epidemic, India has reached nearly 200,000 victims, and the forecasts are extremely pessimistic - not only because the expectation is that the number of infected will continue to rise, but because local experts estimate that currently the number of verified is much higher than officially reported.

Meanwhile, piles of corpses are being transported to makeshift crematoria across the country one after another, non-stop, with long lines of people waiting to burn their loved ones.

Crematorium workers are constantly working and the floors are already collapsing.
