Vaccination against the covid has taken a run and the autonomies are turning to deploy resources and enable vaccination centers to speed up the injections. With the acceleration in the arrival of doses, especially of the Pfizer drug - 1.7 million a week will arrive in May - the coverage of the age groups with the highest risk, where the bulk of punctures are currently focused, is growing rapidly. The first dose has already been injected to 100% of those over 80 - 78% have completed the vaccination regimen - and 67% of people between 70 and 79 also have a vaccine. In the last week, more than 400,000 punctures have been performed daily, vaccination has also been triggered for people aged 60 to 69 years, for whom the AstraZeneca drug is indicated:almost half of this age group have already received a dose of the covid vaccine.

The communities puncture without quarter: vaccine that arrives, vaccine that they inject. Up to a puncture every two minutes in some vaccination centers. “Everything that arrives is put. There is no community that falls below 89% of injected doses of the total received ”, emphasizes Julián Domínguez, epidemiologist of the Spanish Society of Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Hygiene. According to the report of the Ministry of Health on Monday, prior to the receipt that day of the last shipment of Pfizer vaccines, the vast majority of the communities had already injected more than 90% of the doses received. Since the start of the vaccination campaign, more than 11 million people - 23.2% of the population - have already received at least one dose and four million (8.5% of Spaniards) have already completed the vaccination regimen.

“The vaccination rate is finally adjusted to the objective needs in a pandemic context. The health system has functioned with muscle, the professionals have been the fiber and we only lacked the stimulus, which was the vaccines ”, reflects Amós García, president of the Spanish Association of Vaccination and member of the Vaccine Committee that advises the Government on the immunization campaign against covid. After a few first months of ups and downs due to drug distribution problems and suspicions that raised some detected side effects, the acceleration in the arrival of the Pfizer preparation and the endorsement of the European Medicines Agency (EMA, for its acronym in English). ) to the single-dose Janssen vaccine, paralyzed by the company itself until it was resolved if it was associated with rare cases of thrombi (the EMA concluded a possible association, but ruled that the benefit was greater than the risk), they have been the push that the vaccine campaign was missing. In addition to the 1.7 million doses from Pfizer, 188,000 doses of Moderna's preparation and another 103,000 from AstraZeneca have arrived this week.

The effects of vaccination and the agile rate of punctures are most appreciated in the older age groups. Beyond sporadic cases or outbreaks and little aggressiveness, nursing homes, where vaccination has been completed, have reduced infections and serious cases or deaths to a minimum - 55 cases and seven deaths in the last week. In addition, throughout this month, the vaccination with the first dose of those over 80 has been completed and the second has been accelerated to touch 80%. Two-thirds of people between 70 and 79 years old, who until a few weeks ago were in no man's land, without vaccines assigned to their group, already have a dose of the vaccine in place and 47% of the group between 60 and 69 (this that is, 2.5 million people) have also received at least one vaccine.

“The level of protection with one dose is already quite reasonable, but it is completed and its success is achieved with the second dose. As far as possible, stick to the technical sheet and complete the guideline. With the vaccination of these groups, the tension in the health system will be reduced and the dramatic forms of the disease will be avoided ”, points out García. The mean age of the positives since the third wave has dropped from 42 to 40 years and that of patients in intensive care units, from 63 to 60.

Despite the decline in the age of infections and hospitalizations, partly thanks to vaccination, Domínguez asks not to lower his guard: “In the epidemic curve it will be seen that the outbreak is rejuvenating. That is palpable evidence. But there may be a false sense of security. This epidemic curve is being smaller, half of what we had in November, but we also have young people in ICUs and they also die. Not in the same proportion, but they also die and that is tremendous ”. The curve has been on a kind of plateau for several days and in the last 24 hours, Health has registered 7,665 new infections and 117 more deaths. The incidence falls three points and stands at 232 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. “Until we have 50% or 60% of the vaccinated population, we must continue with the measures.I am concerned that mobility and social interaction will increase in summer and, as there is more safety with vaccines, the feeling of danger will decrease and the curve will go up again ”, warns Domínguez.

Experts still see group immunity a long way off, but, for now, the Government's closest objective, which was to finish the first week of May with five million people with the full guideline, is a more than feasible undertaking: all that remains is one million to reach the goal and the number of people with the full guideline in the last week increased by more than 568,000.

At this rate - and if there are no new unforeseen events - by the end of next week, five million people could be reached with the vaccination regimen completed.

This is how vaccination progresses in Spain:

Andalusia

. This community has inoculated 2.5 million doses of the covid vaccine and there are 708,500 people who have already completed the vaccination regimen. Since last Friday the provinces of Huelva and Jaén began to inoculate the Janssen vaccine and throughout this week the rest of Andalusian territories will gradually join. In Seville it is scheduled to start this Wednesday. This serum is being given, preferably, to people of 70 years, while those between 66 and 69 are being injected with AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna depending on availability and as the groups of 70 to 79 years are closed and from 60 to 65.

The spokesman for the Junta de Andalucía, Elías Bendodo, has assured that 102% of the vaccines received have been applied in the community because “the sixth dose” of the vials is being used ”. 100% of those over 80 have already received the first injection. In the case of essential personnel, who began to be immunized with the AstraZeneca vaccine, vaccination is temporarily suspended, but there is already high coverage in some groups: in the civil guards, national and local police, the percentage is 82% 81% and 80%, respectively, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health; in the case of members of Civil Protection, it drops to 75% and that of firefighters is 58%. Nearly eight in 10 teachers (77%) are on the first dose of the AstraZeneca drug as well.

Last week the La Cartuja Olympic Stadium began to be used as a mass vaccination center, where only Pfizer is being applied. It is planned that in Malaga, and whenever a greater number of vaccines arrive, the Palace of Fairs will be enabled.

Aragon.

The community will administer 71,448 doses this week. After an extraordinary day of immunization last Saturday, in which the 4,100 doses of Janssen's drug that arrived last Wednesday (intended for people between 68 and 79 years old) were injected, the community will continue to reinforce the vaccination of the age group over 68 years with the distribution of 71,448 doses of Pfizer (59,178), Moderna (2,610), AstraZeneca (9,700). "Of these, 32,136 will go to citizens between 68 and 79 years old, 9,700 to population groups vaccinated with Astrazeneca, 412 to high-risk patients, 402 to HEALTH personnel and residences and 28,838 to second doses," he said. the regional government.

Asturias.

The community has inoculated 436,600 doses of the covid vaccines since the start of the immunization campaign last December.

There are 130,700 people with the full guideline.

People over 80 have almost been vaccinated with a dose and 73% of those aged 70 to 79 have been given their first puncture.

The Principality of Asturias has administered 2,273 Janssen vaccines and they have been inoculated only in Oviedo and Gijón, according to Health spokespersons, for being "a small consignment."

The vaccination points of the territory range from health centers to precincts provided by shopping centers or unused bus stations to speed up the immunization of the population.

Balearic Islands

. 98.3% of the doses received have been administered on the islands. In the islands so far, 299,363 doses of the vaccine have been inoculated to 227,472 people and there are 75,596 people with the complete schedule. The immunization process has ended among the users and workers of the residences with 88% of vaccination. Among frontline hospital staff, coverage reaches 87% and more than 15,000 doses have been administered. Among the rest of the health personnel, 80% have received the first dose and the immunization of professionals continues, reaching 44% with the complete regimen.

In the group of highly dependent patients, around 4,500, 75% have received the first dose. 98% of those over 80 years old on the islands already have at least one dose and 74% are fully immunized. On the other hand, 65% of people between 70 and 79 years have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while in the group between 60 and 69 years the vaccination reaches 50%.

On February 27, the community began vaccinating the 25,000 teachers who work on the islands and members of the local police. With 68% coverage, immunization of these groups, which was done with the AstraZeneca drug, was temporarily suspended. Vaccines are being administered in health centers to those over 70 years of age and people at risk, while the rest of the ages and people belonging to the priority groups are cited in the vaccination centers set up for this purpose in the four islands . The Bitcita web portal allows people born between 1952 and 1961 to reserve time to be vaccinated.

Canary Islands.

The Government of the Canary Islands plans to receive this week a supply of 81,170 vaccines against covid-19 that will allow an "exponential" increase in the rate of vaccination, estimated at about 13,000 daily doses until yesterday. The Executive assures that 98.2% of the total arrivals of vaccines have been inoculated.

In addition to the vaccination points in the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria university hospitals, the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, the Hospital del Sur de Tenerife (Tenerife), the Doctor Negrín, the Insular-Materno Infantil (Gran Canaria), in the and in In the health centers of all the islands, last week the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds and Magma Arte & Congresos, in Tenerife, came into operation. These spaces are added to those previously activated in the Annex to the Lecture Building of the Guajara Campus of the University of La Laguna, in the Garachico Office, in the Primary Care Management, in the Candelaria Technological Center (CTcan) and in the Campus Casa del Emprendedor fair in Los Realejos, all of them in Tenerife. For its part, in Gran Canaria massive vaccination points have been activated in Infecar and Expomeloneras.

Cantabria.

The community has inoculated 568,500 doses of the covid vaccine since the immunization campaign began last December.

For now, there are 429,000 people on a dose and 144,380 on the full schedule.

The Cantabrian Health Service has already started the vaccination with the 1,800 doses of Janssen vaccines they received last Friday.

The beneficiaries are those over 70 years of age immobilized in their homes.

In addition, throughout this week, those over 80 years of age will continue to be immunized, mostly with second doses.

Their vaccines will also be administered to the age group 70-79 years.

Castile and Leon.

The Castilian-Leon Government has administered 974,889 doses and more than 282,600 people have completed the vaccination regimen. The community has inoculated the first dose to 100% of those over 80 years of age and has already injected the second to 74% of them. In the 70 to 79-year-old group, the first dose has already been administered to 72.5% of this group and 42.5% of people between 60 and 69 years of age.

Castilla la Mancha.

The community will arrive this week 101,870 doses of vaccines among the four that are distributed to the autonomous regions: 83,070 from Pfizer, around 8,000 from Moderna, 4,500 from AstraZeneca and 6,300 from Janssen, whose first batch was inoculated between Friday and Sunday to the population from 70 to 79 years. For this week, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health assures that they plan to administer around 100,000. The region will continue with immunization, adhering to the national plan by risk groups and ages.

Catalonia.

2.3 million vaccines have been administered in the community and it has 1.7 million people (about 27% of its population) with at least one dose. The coverage of those over 80 with a puncture is 99% and it is 54% in people between 70 and 79 years old. In the 60-69 group, 57% have received the first dose as well.

The Department of Health has requested by letter to the Secretary of State to be able to space the second puncture of Pfizer and Moderna in the community and "check whether or not it is worth completing the vaccination after eight weeks" based on a territorialized "study". The Secretary of Public Health of the Generalitat, Josep Maria Argimon, cited the favorable arguments that the Ministry of Health itself took into account when discussing this issue: "The antibodies in most vaccines decay over time, but they do not disappear , and the delay in the second dose reduces infections from 22% to 26%; and deaths, from 30% to 32% ”.

Catalonia is also facing a last minute setback that, according to Argimon, will delay the vaccination of those over 70. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has ordered this Tuesday that the Department of Health of the Generalitat vaccinate the guards civilians and national police stationed in Catalonia. And it gives him 10 days to reach the same proportion of the immunized Mossos d'Esquadra. The decision is a precautionary measure following a complaint by the Jupol and Jucil unions for the suspension of vaccination of both groups. The car collects, citing Health figures, that as of April 22, 2021, 80.3% of the Mossos, 71.2% of the local police and 79.1% of the Barcelona Urban Guard have been vaccinated against 9.9% of the police and 6.3% of the civil guards. "I will not qualify the judicial criteria, but it's ridiculous. We will comply with the court order, although to do so we will stop vaccinating people in their 70s. There I leave it, ”said Argimon

Valencian Community.

The community has more people immunized by the covid vaccine than infected, according to the latest update: 396,000 people with the complete guideline compared to 389,706 who have been infected. Thus, 35.59% of the population to be vaccinated has already put at least one dose and 9.24% have the complete regimen, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The total administered doses - from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen - amounts to 1,519,428. Considering that the National Vaccination Strategy currently excludes the child and adolescent population up to 16 years of age as a group to be vaccinated (among other reasons because the authorized vaccines do not have results of their use in this population), 35.59% of the The population to be vaccinated in the Valencian Community has already put at least one dose, which offers around 70% protection. 9.24% have optimal protection.

The Ministry of Health plans to inject another 249,743 doses this week and the last to join the vaccination plan was the Janssen single-dose vaccine last Friday, of which around 5,000 doses have been inoculated. The Generalitat will keep all the spaces and vaccination centers active for the time necessary to administer these nearly 250,000 doses while waiting for the number of vaccines received to increase. The majority of Pfizer doses will go to second doses of large dependents and people over 70 years of age, while another 60,000 will be inoculated, as a first dose, to people over 70 years of age. The total doses of this pharmaceutical that will be used is 170,493. In this group, people who use foster homes will also be vaccinated.

Of Moderna, 9,120 doses will be inoculated, of which the majority will go to first doses of people considered to be at high risk. AstraZeneca will be used for first doses in people aged 60 to 65 years (born between 1956 and 1961). Approximately 55,240 doses distributed among large vaccination centers and remote or dispersed basic health areas. From Janssen, the Generalitat will distribute 14,890 single doses. The rural, remote or widely dispersed areas will be its destination and its recipients, people between 70 and 79 years old.

Health is not aware of any incidence of the 5,000 doses of Janssen administered in the Valencian Community last week;

that yes, it already warns that next Thursday the 30,000 committed doses will not arrive but half.

This week, the mass vaccination centers will be open until Friday in Valencia and until Wednesday in Castellón.

In Alicante today was the last day.

Estremadura.

This community has administered more than 400,000 doses since the start of the vaccination campaign.

At least 31% of its population already has a dose (284,000 people) and about 116,500 have completed the vaccination regimen.

The community has vaccinated 100% of those over 80 years of age with the first puncture, 80% of people between 70 and 79 years old and half of the group between 60 and 69 years old.

Galicia.

The Xunta starts this week the administration of the complete regimen to the population between 70 and 79 years old, with the inoculation of 81,000 second doses. The Galician Health Service (Sergas) expects to receive around 105,000 vaccines from Pfizer, 14,500 from Moderna, 6,000 from AstraZeneca and 14,000 from Janssen. The campaign will focus, in addition to this age group, on people between 60 and 65 years old and on large dependents who are being immunized at home. The Xunta hopes to start inoculating the group between 65 and 69 years old at the end of this week and the beginning of the next.

The vaccination courses installed in fairgrounds and cultural complexes continue to operate, with an attendance rate of around 80% of the people summoned.

Between this Tuesday and Wednesday, 45,000 doses of Pfizer are expected to be administered in these spaces.

About 11% of the Galician population that must be vaccinated has already received the two doses (259,335 people), according to data published this Tuesday by Sergas.

The Rioja.

The community plans to complete the immunization of those over 80 this week and on Friday, have people between 70 and 79 years old, with at least one dose on.

In addition, the community begins this Wednesday the vaccination of people from 66 to 69 years old.

The regional government plans to administer more than 15,000 doses this week.

To complete the immunization of those over 80, "more than 6,500 citizens of Logroño, included in that age group, will receive their corresponding dose in the special device enabled in Riojaforum," the regional government has indicated in a statement.

And people of this age group who have mobility problems will be cared for at home by the staff of their reference health centers.

For the 70 to 79-year-old group, the regional government has summoned 6,600 residents in Logroño and the Basic Health Zones of Alberite and Los Cameros to be vaccinated at the vaccination points and the San Pedro Hospital.

In addition, the population of the entire La Rioja between 60 and 65 years of age, as well as high-risk patients, will be immunized at the San Pedro Hospital and the Calahorra Hospital Foundation.

Madrid.

The community has expanded the vaccination network that works from public hospitals. The La Paz Hospital, the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, on October 12 and the Jiménez Díaz Foundation were the four centers in the capital where people from 70 to 74 years old were pricked with Pfizer. This Tuesday the Ramón y Cajal, Infanta Leonor (Madrid - Vallecas), Puerta de Hierro (Majadahonda), Príncipe de Asturias (Alcalá de Henares), Villalba, Getafe, Fuenlabrada, Móstoles, Severo Ochoa (Leganés), Alcorcón, Sureste (Arganda del Rey), Henares (Coslada), Infanta Sofía (San Sebastián de los Reyes), Infanta Elena (Valdemoro), Torrejón de Ardoz, Infanta Cristina (Parla), El Escorial, Rey Juan Carlos (Móstoles) and Tajo ( Aranjuez). Also, so far,Madrid is the only community that has officially approved the incorporation of private health into the immunization campaign and this week the number of private centers that inoculate high-risk populations, such as cancer and immunosuppressed patients, will grow. Among those private hospitals that will be added are the Navarra University Clinic, Quirón Group, HM Hospital Group, Vithas Group, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Moncloa Hospital, Santa Elena Clinic, Zarzuela Hospital and Francisco de Asís Sanatorium.Moncloa Hospital, Santa Elena Clinic, Zarzuela Hospital and Francisco de Asís Sanatorium.Moncloa Hospital, Santa Elena Clinic, Zarzuela Hospital and Francisco de Asís Sanatorium.

Last Friday began the vaccination of large dependents immobilized in their homes through primary care nursing teams that add Janssen punctures to this target population. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, more than 60% of large dependents have already received at least one dose of the vaccine: of the approximately 35,000 people in this group, 21,201 have already been immunized with the first and 8,470 have the complete schedule . Immunization also continues at the Isabel Zendal, the WiZink Center and the Wanda Metropolitano stadium for the general population aged 60 to 65 years with AstraZeneca; and, in the case of Valdebebas, also for mutualists over 70 years of age with Moderna.

Murcia.

The Murcian Government will summon this week more than 60,000 people of different age groups to be vaccinated and plans to end the immunization of people between 70 and 79 years old. A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health has indicated for the age group 65 to 70 years will be used, in fact, both Pfizer and AstraZeneca drugs "depending on availability according to shipments of vaccines by the Ministry of Health" . This spokeswoman has assured that Health has reduced the delivery forecast for Janssen's vaccine and will finally send 4,000 doses, half of those scheduled for this Thursday, April 29.

The Region of Murcia is combining vaccination from health centers with mass immunization points. “If we had had sufficient doses of vaccines from the beginning, the entire Region of Murcia would have been immunized for a long time, since we had and have the capacity to do so: we only lack the doses and good planning by the ministry that allows us to plan also here in our community ”, explained this spokesperson. Murcia has exceeded the barrier of 400,000 administered doses, which indicates that there are more people with the full schedule than infected since the start of the pandemic.

Navarre.

The provincial government plans to administer 33,500 doses of the vaccine this week, that is, 5,500 more than the previous week. The forecast is to continue these days with the population between 70 and 79 years and 60 and 65 years, in addition to advancing in the inoculation of the vaccine to people included in the very high risk group (cancer patients, dialysis patients). or transplanted, among others). In total, there are 64,000 people in the community who have already completed the vaccination regimen.

As reported by the Navarra Health Council, throughout the week we will continue with very high-risk people in the different hospitals in Navarra.

In total, the doses are expected to be administered to around 700 people in this group.

Regarding coverage by age groups, at least one dose has been applied to 100% of those over 80 years of age, to 66.2% of the group between 70 and 79 years of age, to 4.7% of the group between 66 and 69 years, and 67.1% of those between 60 and 65 years.

Basque Country.

With the 721,425 doses administered until this Tuesday, 8.8% of the Basque population has already received the complete regimen and is immunized. The rate of people with the first injection is 24.4% in the Basque Country. Osakidetza hopes to accelerate the vaccination process thanks to the 121,000 doses of Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen and AstraZeneca received this week. With the first three pharmaceutical companies, people over 70 are being inoculated, while the British formula is used for the group between 65 and 60 years old. The Basque Health Service has had to resolve a “small incident”, according to the councilor Gotzone Sagardui, which occurred this Monday with AstraZeneca, which only sent 600 of the 4,800 samples that it had promised.None of the appointments had to be canceled because stored doses were used for contingencies of this type.

Ceuta.

The autonomous city has inoculated about 20,000 doses of the vaccine and has almost 15,000 people (22.5% of its population) with at least one dose.

87% of those over 80 have also received the first puncture.

This coverage figure drops to 78% in the case of people between 70 and 79 years old and is close to 45% in the group between 60 and 69 years old.

Melilla.

The Government has already administered more than 16,600 doses and has one in five citizens of the autonomous community with at least one dose.

This is the territory with the lowest vaccination coverage of the first dose in those over 80: 76.8%, although this data is very similar to that of people between 70 and 79 (75.5%).

57% of people between 60 and 69 are also immunized with the first dose.
