The terrifying tour de force of the thriller "The Guilty", a classic of Italian comedy, a beautiful "Treasure Map" in Anjou or the

THRILLER.

Suspense at the end of the line

At 10:15 p.m., in Arte.

We had been given the man over the phone alone on the screen before, but never like that.

In 2003, for example, Joel Schumacher cornered, for “Phone Game”, Colin Farrell in a telephone booth, threatened by a mad sniper with whom he was obliged to speak on pain of taking a bullet.

The tension seemed to be at its height ... It is that we did not imagine then that, in the genre, we could do much more anxiety, which is what the director Gustav Möller applies with "The Guilty".

The film takes place in a police emergency call center, and therefore features a police officer, Asger, who receives a call for help from a woman. She says she was kidnapped, before being cut off brutally. For nearly an hour and a half, the man will only have his headset, his tenacity, and his capacity for analysis and imagination to understand what is happening, to sort out the situation, to try to save the unhappy one. And the more he calls, the more he advances, the more he has doubts ...

On the screen, the staging, staggering mastery for a first feature film, manages to set up a terrifying suspense, while the viewer has only the eyes, the voice and the attitudes of the hero as benchmarks, as well as what he hears on the other end of the phone.

This, thanks to an enormous work of framing, but also on the sound, and to the phenomenal interpretation of the actor Jakob Cedergren.

In the end, we can only salute the filmmaker and his actor who manage, with such a restricted framework, to make us tremble so much and to end up with such a terrifying film.

CLASSIC.

Italians, kings of comedy

At 9:05 p.m. on C8.

The C8 channel continues its excellent Wednesday evening cycle devoted to Italian cinema, like a good old cine-club. "The pigeon" is a marvel around gangsters, nickel-plated feet who prepare a blow too big for them, with a dazzling cast. Next to the old Toto, the Italian Bourvil, the debuts of Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio Gassman and Claudia Cardinale. In "The Pigeon", when a convict does not want to carry out his - small - penalty, it is a poor fellow who takes his place for a little money.

On this quickly forgotten canvas, this Italian-style comedy competes with bursting lines (Mastroianni facing his baby: "No, I'm not going to entrust him to his mother in prison. He will go when he grows up") to a rhythm worthy of a boulevard theater play, but much more creaky.

Like a two-sided medal, on the one hand, the tragedy of downgrades, of failures reduced to expedients in a very poor Italy, and on the other, a pure jewel of increasingly hilarious situations.

A masterpiece in black and white, with a very pronounced social aspect.

POLAR.

A successful remake

Felix Kramer and Trystan Pütter in “Lands of Murders”, a German remake of the Spanish thriller “La Isla minima”, as successful as the original.

Playtime

At 9:05 p.m. on Canal +.

While the Berlin Wall has just fallen and Germany begins its reunification by forced march, two police officers who are opposed to everything are investigating the mysterious disappearance of two sisters, in a remote village in the north of the former GDR.

The youngest is an idealist from the West.

The older, more brutal and lover of good food and drink, comes from the East, and better understands the way locals reason.

After a difficult start, the tongues not loosening, they link their business to other disappearances of young women, never clarified.

If this story reminds you of anything, that's okay.

Because “Lands of Murders” is none other than the German adaptation, very successful, of the excellent Spanish thriller “La Isla minima”.

If the geographical and historical context is different, exchanging the post-Franco Spain of the early 1980s for the former GDR left groggy by the collapse of communism (sets found in Ukraine), the rest of the story and the characters prove to be particularly faithful to the original film, and retain its disillusioned darkness.

Incredible Anjou jewelry

At 9:05 pm on France 3.

For more than twenty years, “The Treasure Map”, an adventure game full of suspense, has always known how to delight, surprise and reveal the rich heritage of our regions. This time, head for Anjou along the banks of the Loire, the longest river in France. The helicopter flight over the site allows you to immediately understand why this territory is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and not just for its good wines or its 1,200 châteaux, one of whose medieval kitchens you can visit!

From Angers to Saumur, we fly with the candidates from (re) discovery to (re) discovery, without seeing the time pass.

The largest sarcophagus factory from the Merovingian era is stunning, as are the rich and sumptuous residences, starting with the residence of the Dukes of Anjou and its royal residence.

We also enter with amazement in ancestral troglodyte dwellings.

And the beauty of the landscapes all over hills and valleys really makes you want to go and unwind there.

DOCUMENTARY.

Rather kitten or puppy?

"Le Monde de Jamy" makes us discover the secret life of baby cats and dogs.

ELEPHANT DOC

At 9:05 pm on France 4.

Cats and dogs can only be legally adopted when they are at least eight weeks old.

In this rerun issue of "Jamy's World", the host, accompanied by Eglantine Eméyé, meets breeders and follows the fate of puppies and kittens at the start of their life.

Always very educational, the documentary multiplies the advice to new owners.

Development of the senses, learning of the discipline, discovery of new environments… Each step is deciphered by veterinarians.

We like the little experiments that illustrate the point as well as the sequences with hidden cameras that spy on the behavior of animals in the absence of their owners.
