She treated customers with botox or hyaluron, sprayed lips or cheeks - but she was not allowed to do that.

A 40-year-old woman has been sentenced to two years probation for illegally performing cosmetic surgery.

The district court of Berlin-Tiergarten found the woman guilty of dangerous bodily harm and illicit practice of medicine. Accordingly, the woman had injected her lips or cheeks without having a permit to perform such treatments. "It went wrong in several cases," it said in the judgment. There was inflammation, bruises, swelling, hardening or redness.

It was about cosmetic surgery that twelve women and four men had carried out.

The defendant injected botox or hyaluronic acid 34 times between 2016 and March 2019 without permission, said the presiding judge.

In some cases, the defendant had expressly introduced herself as a non-medical practitioner.

"Those affected assumed that she was appropriately qualified." The woman earned around 4600 euros from the treatments.

The court ordered this sum to be collected.

Defendant makes confession

The defendant made a brief confession.

She is sorry, said the 40-year-old, who, according to her, is currently working as a nursing assistant.

Victims in the process were not interviewed.

Instead, the judge read transcripts of police interrogations.

A 53-year-old had said he had "pain all over his face without end."

He had to seek medical treatment.

A 43-year-old said on the sidelines of the trial that she "looked really bad" after an injection on her face.

With the judgment, the court followed the prosecutor's request.

In his plea, he said: "Ultimately, it depended on chance whether a treatment was successful."

The decision is not yet final.
