For nearly a week, all passengers from Brazil, India, Chile, South Africa, Argentina, but also Guyana, have been subject to a controlled quarantine of ten days.

So far, 708 travelers have been checked and 62 fined, says the Interior Ministry.

This quarantine is mandatory, regardless of the result of their test, positive or negative, on arrival on French soil.

According to figures from Beauvau, arrested on Tuesday evening, 1,888 people were given a quarantine order, all airports combined, 26 of whom tested positive for Covid-19.

The measure, unprecedented in France, has been effective since last Saturday by prefectural decree.

Its objective is to curb the spread of the virus, in the face of the threat of new variants of Covid-19, which are particularly virulent in these countries classified as “at risk”.

Unannounced checks by police and gendarmes

Passengers coming from these countries must justify on their arrival a PCR test of less than 36 hours and are systematically tested again by an antigen test.

The place chosen for the ten-day quarantine is defined by prefectural decree.

Apart from permission to leave between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., the persons concerned may be subject to an unexpected check by the police and gendarmes.

In the event of absence, the fine incurred is 1,000 to 1,500 euros against 135 euros currently for other passengers from countries outside the European Union who would not remain confined for seven days upon their arrival on French soil. .

The list of reasons for coming to France from these five countries has also been clearly restricted “for the most part, only to nationals, their spouses and children, and to nationals of the European Union or of a third country having their principal residence in France ”.
