The first officer was charged in the drug scandal involving the Munich police.

As the Munich I public prosecutor's office announced, they accused the police officer of acquiring and possessing narcotics and doping substances and of a so-called breach of custody.

The police officer allegedly seized marijuana while on duty and kept it to himself.

It was initially unclear when the trial at the Munich District Court would begin.

The investigation into the scandal has now been expanded to 37 suspects, according to a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office.

The proceedings against six of the accused have meanwhile been discontinued, against individual further accused the proceedings against payment have been discontinued or a penalty order has been applied for.

Further proceedings are to be completed in the coming weeks and months.

Investigators evaluated millions of chat messages

"The main focus of the investigation is still on the violations of the Narcotics Act," it said in December in an LKA announcement.

There had previously been a raid in September.

Individual accused are also investigated on suspicion of thwarting punishment in office, persecution of innocent people, bodily harm in office and use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.

By December, the 20 or so investigators from the “Soko Nightlife” had reportedly evaluated more than three and a half million chat messages, more than three million images and a good 75,000 video files.

"The size of the secured data storage is more than 6.5 TB (terabytes)," said the LKA.

The allegations against the police officers had come to light because a suspected drug dealer unpacked as a key witness in a court case against his suspected customers in uniform.

The police officers are said to have committed the legal violations predominantly while partying in their free time.

"The allegations in the room are absolutely incompatible with our self-image and also with the legitimate expectations of the citizens of their police," said Munich police chief Thomas Hampel.

Following the criminal investigation, the police headquarters will implement appropriate disciplinary measures with all consistency.
