A hundred employees were present on the site Thursday morning to request "a discussion with the State and the Renault group on the future of Fonderie de Bretagne", according to Maël Le Goff, CGT manager of the site.

The employees of the Fonderie de Bretagne began Thursday the third day of blocking their plant in Caudan (Morbihan) to request their retention within the Renault group, which announced the sale of the site.

"

There is no progress, we are at a standstill so we continue to block,

" Maël Le Goff, CGT manager of the site, told AFP.

We are always asking for a discussion with the State and the Renault group on the future of Fonderie de Bretagne.

We want to stay in the Renault group and recover our production volumes

, ”added the unionist.

About a hundred employees were present on the site Thursday morning out of the 350 in the plant, according to the same source.

Established in Caudan, near Lorient, since 1965, the Fonderie de Bretagne manufactures suspension arms, exhaust manifolds and elbows, as well as gearbox differentials.

Heir to the Forges d'Hennebont, the Fonderie de Bretagne employed up to 1,600 people in the 1980s.

Part of the delocalized production

The site has been the subject of rumors of closure since the spring of 2020. Last summer, the automaker requested a strategic review which concluded that the plant should diversify its activities and continue to reduce its production costs.

On March 11, the group announced the sale of the plant in order to "

perpetuate activities and jobs

".

The employees point out for their part that Renault has relocated part of their production to Turkey, Portugal and Spain, thus hampering the profitability of the Caudan site.
