Associations have been asking for it for a long time.
The vaccination will be extended "from May 1" to all people over 18 "who are seriously overweight", announces Emmanuel Macron in an interview with the regional press (including Le Parisien), made public Thursday.
This concerns obese people whose body mass index (BMI) is greater than 30.
"I invite the 2.3 million French people concerned to go to the vaccination centers this weekend," continues the Head of State, excluding for the moment to open vaccination to all.
Obese people over 55 were already given priority for vaccination.
"We have doses in stock"
“Vaccination of the most vulnerable lowers the pressure on hospital services.
But we have doses in stock ”, justifies the Head of State.
These obese people new to vaccination will necessarily receive Pfizer or Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen being reserved for 55 years and over because of the risk - very rare - of thrombosis.
Last Thursday, the Minister of Health announced the possibility of "starting by mid-May" the vaccination of people suffering from obesity. It will therefore be from the 1st of the month.
