After the State of Israel succeeded quite impressively in eradicating the spread of the corona virus in Israel among adults, the question now arises when the vaccination campaign will begin among children in schools.

As mentioned, the director general of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Hezi Levy, estimated that such a move would begin in May.

We turned to experts to understand how close the decision on the issue is.

Beyond that, we wanted to find out what danger exists in the Indian variant, which causes a great deal of morbidity and mortality in the subcontinent, and whether it is a vaccine-resistant variant and may endanger Israel again.

"The Indian variant is very contagious"

Prof. Nadav Davidovich, head of the School of Public Health at Ben-Gurion University and a member of the government advisory team, says regarding the vaccination of children that most of the information is already in Israel's hands, and that the results look very good.

"Pfizer has given us almost all the information it has about its vaccine for children and the results are very good. There is still some information missing, and even after we receive it we will wait for the US FDA decision and then we will start. However, the results are very good. 14 years old and I would not be afraid to vaccinate him and I would be happy to do so already. But we are working in an orderly and informed manner, and we would rather wait a little longer before we set off, but it is only a few weeks. It is important to explain to the public that once approved It is also highly contagious in children, and although it is less harmful to them, there are still always some children who get the disease severely, so there is no reason to endanger them. "

Regarding the Indian variant, Prof. Davidovich said: "One thing is certain, it is a very contagious variant. Therefore we are working very hard to prevent its entry into the country, as we have been able to do this block with the South African type."

"Israel has good laboratories, and we perform good amputation chains, so even though the British mutation is common in the country, we have well restrained the other types. What we are doing now is blocking the entry of the Indian variant, we are doing this through Ben Gurion Airport and through Insulation.

In addition, and although there is some information in the world about this variant, we are currently testing it in laboratories in the country against antibodies to the virus and also testing for additional groups of people who have been vaccinated and without the vaccine.

"Israel is a leader in this field, and we will reach a good understanding and conclusions ourselves as soon as the results begin to be received," he concludes.

"Let the HMOs lead the vaccination campaign for children"

Prof. Bishara Bisharath, chairman of the Society for the Advancement of Health in Arab Society and director of medical complexes at the Corona headquarters at the Ministry of Health, explains that the children's vaccination process will probably start in May, and in his opinion the HMOs and GPs and pediatricians.

"We are just waiting for the FAD's decision to approve the vaccine. From the moment such a decision is made, within a week we will also make such a decision and get going. However, at the moment it has not been decided how this operation came out - whether the schools will treat, or who will lead the vaccine "HMOs. I believe that in light of our success in the adult immunization process, it is very worthwhile for HMOs to lead here as well because they have experience and are spread all over the country."

"Beyond that, there is another major reason why the transparent hospitals should lead the vaccine, and that is that the fear of corona in the country has faded and it will be more difficult to convince people to vaccinate their children. At this point, pediatricians and GPs have an advantage over schools. The vaccines thus encourage the public to come. "

Regarding the Indian variant, Prof. Bisharath sounds a partial sedative siren: "Experts in India say that the vaccine has a good effect on the vaccinated. I say this carefully of course. We still do not know whether the Indians use the Western vaccines or maybe the Chinese vaccine, so at the moment I say wait, I mean literally close all the flight destinations to countries with this variant, and make a closure on those who come to Israel. "

"Vaccine opponents must be removed from the tree"

Prof. Ronit Calderon-Margalit of the School of Public Health at the Hebrew University, expresses great sorrow at what is happening in India, and says that precisely against the background of these sights, immediate action should be taken to create herd immunity in the country.

"First of all what's going on in India is really depressing, really unprecedented terrible plays. It happened because there were a series of mass festivals that caused huge contagions. This, precisely against the background of what is happening in India, I think we should really act in Israel against vaccine opponents like what is happening in Pardes Hanna and just take them off the tree. 4 months of vaccinations have passed and we now know that the side effects are really mild and not extensive. And brought the public back to a reasonable life, so there is no real reason why to take the risk and not take the vaccine. "

"People have climbed a tall tree and now it is difficult for them to get off it. We need to act with sensitivity and persuasion, and explain to them that it is also our duty to protect vaccinated people like kidney patients or other patients who may die if there is no herd immunity."
