Today, Thursday 29 April, the WWF turns 60, a long period in which the organization - founded in 1961 by a small group of naturalists, guided by passion and research - has been the protagonist of global actions for the conservation of nature, creating some of the most innovative initiatives ever undertaken for the protection of the planet, the results of which are still being felt today.

From supporting the creation of protected areas of great value such as the Galapagos and Volcanoes National Parks in Ecuador and Rwanda, to the conservation of iconic species such as the tiger, gorilla or giant panda, an unmistakable symbol of the WWF, whose number of individuals in nature it has increased by 68% in 40 years, thanks to the NGO's collaboration with local governments and communities.

"After 60 years of history - says the president of WWF Italy, Donatella Bianchi - WWF is a global multicultural organization, with offices and projects active in about 100 countries, supported by over 35 million people around the world, and this because he used his authority to build a fairer, healthier and more sustainable world. Our journey, however, is far from over. Unequivocal messages arrive from science and society is also ready for change, ready for a ecological transition which, together with the new energy policies and technological innovation, must support the protection of biodiversity by recognizing the value of natural capital. There is no more time for announcements, actions are needed: all together we can make change real ".
