Mettlach - If you have Villeroy & Boch placemats at home, you should now take another closer look: The company calls back two home accessories in a press release.

The reason for the recall is that the amount of azo dyes contained is too high, "as part of the regular internal quality checks" it was noticed that the legally stipulated limit value was exceeded for two placemats.

Callback to Villeroy & Boch: "Essentials Bamboo placemats" - this is how you get your money back

Specifically, the recalled products are the “Essentials Bamboo Placemat” placemats in dark green and brown, ”says Villeroy & Boch.

The affected sets are 33 cm high and 48 cm long and were sold until March 2021, they are made of bamboo and cotton.

The place mats are "clearly recognizable by the fabric labels with the Villeroy & Boch logo" - the manufacturer is now calling for the contaminated textiles not to be used any further.

Customers also have the option of returning the sets at the company's sales outlets, and the price will be refunded.

It is also possible to return it by post; a return form is available for this on the Villeroy & Boch website.

Recall of placemats: the reason was too much azo dye

Azo dyes are widely used in industrial production; they are used, for example, in textiles, paints, plastics and also in food.

Some of the dyes are considered to be not entirely harmless, as the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety explains on its website: They can have a carcinogenic effect because they are processed in a certain way in the human metabolism.

In addition, some dyes can irritate the skin and respiratory tract and, for example, processed in food impair children's attention and activity.

Those of the azo dyes that can actually be used are usually only approved for certain products and are limited to a clear maximum value.

This value has just been exceeded with the Villeroy & Boch placemats - the company therefore urgently recommends returning the textiles.
