“care tariff loyalty law”

The draft law

provides for collectively agreed wages as a condition for billing with the long-term care insurance

"Operators of care facilities only get money from long-term care insurance if they pay their employees collective wages," Heil explained to the newspaper.

He receives support from the Federal Finance Minister and SPD candidate for Chancellor Olaf Scholz: The proposed law ensures "that collective agreements in the care of the elderly become a reality, that there are

better working conditions

," said Scholz during a digital SPD event in his home constituency in Brandenburg.

Salary increase of more than 300 euros possible

Around 1.2 million employees work in geriatric care.

According to the Ministry of Labor, just under half of these employees are paid according to the tariff.

The law would bring the other 600,000 care workers a noticeable increase in wages: “On average,

Spahn rejects allegations

Actually, such a draft law is the job of Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), but he has "not yet presented a concrete solution," Heil continues.

Spahn defends himself, however, a reform draft has long been available, according to a report by the dpa.

“We all want to pay better caregivers.

But that must not be at the expense of the weakest in our society, ”said Spahn.

Anyone who wants to pay collective bargaining must therefore also cap their own contributions.

“The finance minister should finally act on that.”
