"Tinder is really not just a matchmaking app, and it annoys me that some people think so," says reporter and jurist Kathy Jackson. "So forget about Airbnb, Uber or other travel apps that are considered 'must-have'. The most important travel app on my phone is Tinder."

In a recent column on the popular travel site Travel and Leisure, Kathy says she started using Tinder in 2015, and has been "seeing the world" with her help ever since.

She says guidebooks and tourism are great tools, but there are many things a local resident knows better than any Lonely Planet guide. "I realized this while traveling in Spain. It was a real revelation. I knew Carlos there, and it turns out he was my key to opening doors I didn't even know existed." According to her, these "doors" included, among other things, beautiful secret beaches, the best tapas berries and more. "He took me to such authentic places,Until I could not order in Spanish, I would starve to death. "

Thanks to Tinder: escaped from the volcano

Cathy warmly embraced Tinder as a travel app, and next she had the opportunity to go to Australia, where she discovered with the help of a local guy an amazing oyster bar in Brisbane, and also used it to build an Australian slang dictionary that she used in meetings on her trips to the giant country.

She further notes that her relationship with that guy, named Toby, was platonic in the first place.

"We didn't even hold hands," she says.

In other cases, the Tinder app even rescued it from various issues, especially in the year the Corona raged around the world.

For example, in Bali, Indonesia, she met Roger, a Swiss who set up a glamping complex on one of the beaches.

When the Agung volcano began to emit a lot of ash that covered the sky and caused a nearby airport to close, it was Roger, who through his personal connections, managed to rescue her from the island in original ways.

Closes meals for herself at destinations before she reaches them

"And I have not talked about the simpler things, such as the fact that I close dinners for myself in the various destinations, long before I reach them, or my ability to meet other travelers and thus reduce costs thanks to shared travel, go on guided tours together, stay with people I know and more." , She adds.

According to her, sometimes she does use the app for romantic purposes, but the main use is to create a network of local friends, which makes her trips more in-depth, comfortable and interesting.

"I already have hundreds of success stories behind me. Meeting locals is as effective as any travel book, and the app also helps me get to know other travelers, whether for shared experiences or just to share a taxi to the airport. All you have to do is slide right - and meet the right people "
