2021-05-03T15:00:07.454Z

In order to prevent the start of work for the installation of wind turbines off Cap Fréhel (Côtes d'Armor), fishermen have mobilized

The announced naval battle did not take place.

This Monday, May 3, the first day of construction work on the wind farm in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, the scallop fishermen were nevertheless on the war footing at dawn, determined to do battle.

They had planned to go to sea in order to block the boats of the operator Ailes Marines, held by Iberdrola.

Except that the latter have delayed their arrival in the area.

Tired of war, the fishermen preferred to demonstrate peacefully in front of the prefecture of Saint-Brieuc in the company of environmental associations, the departmental and regional fisheries committee as well as certain elected officials.

Around 300 people gathered to denounce the establishment, by 2023, of 62 wind turbines 16 km from Cap Fréhel, near Natura 2000 sites and in the middle of a fishing zone.

An "ecocidal project" which would destroy the seabed and would be marred by administrative irregularities according to them.

State vessels to ensure the smooth running of the site

The fishermen regret not having been heard by the operator and the government.

In recent days, the tension had risen a notch with an incendiary device launched against the connection site in Erquy, a security officer fell into the water and tags on the town hall ... If the ships of Iberdrola have finally taken a position during the day, the fishermen are still planning to disrupt the site.

"It's only a postponement," they explain.

Johan Toutant, fishing boss of the Jema trawler regrets having to "use force to be heard".

For its part, the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic announces that several State vessels will be deployed at sea to ensure the smooth running of the site, "the safety of navigation, people, goods and the environment. ".
