In his usual press conference, the Minister of Health of the City of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós ratified the drop in coronavirus infections, although he recalled that it is important that, given the arrival of the first cold days, care and protocols in closed spaces.

But in addition, he anticipated how they plan to apply the second doses to those who have already received the Sinopharm, AstraZeneca and Sputnik V vaccines in the City.

"The positivity rate continues to decline, it is at 21.2%. There was an average of a moving average of 2,800 cases, today we are at 2,200 to 2,300 on average," the official said.

However, he asked for extreme care as this week there would be a lower temperature and it is important that care protocols in closed spaces are not neglected.

"We will have a few cold days ahead, let us remember that the cold tends to take us indoors and that is where most infections occur. Let us remember that if we are with people who do not live together: we respect the

distance

, wear

masks

indoors and Let's make sure there is

cross ventilation

, "he stressed.

For the minister, "after more than a year of this disease we know quite well that the cases descend due to a combination of phenomena."

"One is that when people observe the increase in cases they refocus and return to focus, to comply, to make the effort to take care of themselves in more detail. The second has to do with susceptibilities in immunological terms, people who have been vaccinated and They are protected and help to reduce cases. The third has to do with government measures that help people to have the will to take care of themselves, "he listed.

In this sense, he justified the accompaniment of the City regarding nighttime restrictions and social events because "there is part of the problem" in the increase in cases.

Regarding the lethality and mortality in the City, consulted by the journalists, Quirós clarified: "The lethality has been decreasing permanently in the City of Buenos Aires, since July the lethality month by month was lower."

"Today getting sick from Covid is safer than it has been previously, and that has to do with learning from the health system and the drugs to combat it," he said.

On the severity of the disease in this new wave in younger age groups, Quirós clarified that "to date there is no clear evidence that the variants that circulate have increased mortality in young people."

He reported that "there are more young people hospitalized and that the average age of the therapies has dropped" and explained: "Firstly, because older people have been more protected with the vaccine and have gotten less sick, and secondly because it is a wave that has had the twice as many cases as the August wave. "

"We have not been able to clearly identify that mortality in this age group is worse at this time," added the minister.

"70% of those who died last year were over 70 years old, it was deeply focused on those over 70, today it has changed because the elderly who have become ill are minors. Vaccination does not prevent the disease, but the vaccine to less with one dose it has enormous protection, practically 90% effective, so they have lowered their risk of getting sick, "he closed.

Vaccination in the City

The City received 864,700 doses of vaccines, of which 796,916 have been applied, representing 92% of the total received.

There are 644,923 people vaccinated with at least one dose, "which is 52.9% of the risk groups and is 21.5% of the total population of the City."

"We hope to vaccinate all the risk groups

before winter,

" said Quirós.

Regarding the applications of the second doses, the minister assured that "all those who have received the

Sputnik

vaccine

will receive the second component to the extent that the City has access."

And he clarified that in the last shipments from Russia, no second components have been received.

"Those who have received

Covishield or AstraZeneca

will receive the second dose from week twelve, we understand that by mid-May a shipment is likely to arrive," said the Buenos Aires official.

Regarding the manufacture of AstraZeneca between Argentina and Mexico, he expressed: "We hope that the vaccination campaign can continue its rhythm and from the next 3 weeks the entire Astrazeneca component of Argentine and Mexican manufacture can begin to enter into a rhythm to access vaccines in significant amounts ".
