After video games and music, Riot Games is trying out series.
The studio announced yesterday the launch of
Arcane
, which will be available on Netflix "in the fall".
The adaptation will tell the story of two key characters from the world of the # 1 multiplayer video game in the world:
League of Legends.
This animated film is produced in collaboration with a French studio, Fortiche Productions.
Netflix, which does not offer exactly the same content in each part of the world, confirms that the series will also be available in France.
The teaser was released on Monday.
Riot Games studio and Netflix each have a lot to gain from this collaboration.
For the first, a distribution medium already widely established in the world, with 200 million subscribers.
For the other, it is a breeding ground of 100 million active players who always seek to know more about the history of their game, the plot of which has been developing for more than ten years.
This is not the first appearance of
League of Legends
(or
LoL
for followers) on the platform.
A documentary,
League of Legends Origins,
retracing the
success story
of the game over the past ten years has already been produced in 2019. It is however the first time that the game's scenario has been adapted for series production.
Riot Games is also a hit in music
The Riot studio has already had many successes in its derivative productions from the universe of its flagship video game.
He has notably produced
League of Legend
in short films and music videos.
The song by artificial K-pop influencers, the KDAs, has reached up to 430 million views on Youtube.
Major esports events are also popular with the public, with 44 million spectators at the
League of Legends
World Cup Final
in 2019.

When it comes to adapting games, Netflix plays it all over the place. Since March, the streaming service has also been broadcasting the animated series
DOTA Dragon's Blood, an
adaptation of the DOTA game series, competing with the leader of the MOBA genre, competitive multiplayer games. The number of players is however smaller with a few hundred thousand users per month.
