On May 4th, fans celebrate "Star Wars Day" every year.
In keeping with the unofficial holiday, a wide variety of memorabilia from the private collection of the late Darth Vader actor David Prowse have now been auctioned in Bristol, UK.
A Darth Vader mask brought about 2200 pounds (about 2530 euros), as the "Guardian" and "Bristol Live" reported.
A lightsaber changed hands for 9,000 pounds (about 10,361 euros) - the auctioneers had only expected 80 to 120 pounds (about 92 to 138 euros) for it.
Part of the proceeds will go to British Alzheimer's research.
David Prowse suffered from Alzheimer's himself in the last years of his life.
Darth Vader is one of the main characters in the now three-part Star Wars saga.
The first three films appeared between 1977 and 1983, with Prowse as the Sith Lord.
In a three-part prequel, which appeared between 1999 and 2005 and is now classified as the start of the saga, Darth Vader's youth was illuminated as Anakin Skywalker, with Hayden Christensen in the lead role, among others.
Almost three million dollars for "R2D2"
It's not the first auction of Star Wars props.
In 2017, for example, the astrodroid "R2D2" was auctioned for almost three million dollars.
May 4th established itself with fans because of the English pronunciation.
The recurring Jedi saying "May the force be with you", in English "May the force be with you", projected the fans unceremoniously onto the fourth day of May: "May the fourth be with you".
Google, among others, takes part in the celebrations. If you enter “May The Fourth” or “Star Wars Day” in the search bar, famous characters and symbols from the saga appear.
