Employees are asking to remain within the Renault group, which announced on March 11 the sale of the plant.

The employees of the Fonderie de Bretagne do not intend to give up.

For a week, they have occupied the Caudan plant (Morbihan) put on sale since March 11 by the Renault group.

This Tuesday, May 4, they went in procession to the prefecture of Vannes to make their demands heard: they are asking to be kept within the automotive group.

Left at 8:30 am, about twenty vehicles drove at a reduced speed of about 50 km / h on the N165 between Caudan and Vannes, according to the gendarmerie.

The snail operation ended in a concert of horns in Vannes which arrived in procession an hour later, "

between 80 and 90 employees

" of the 350 that has the Foundry, according to the CGT.

On strike since April 27

A delegation of "

founders

" was to be received at the prefecture, while about fifty of their colleagues remained at the factory "

still occupied

" by the strikers since April 27, according to the union. “

We don't know by whom we will be received. We are always motivated, we continue, we are still blocking and we are on the same demands: to remain in the Renault group and have more volumes,

"said Maël Le Goff, CGT delegate, contacted by AFP.

The employees were received by the prefect of Morbihan Patrice Faure.

"

The prefect assured us that a plan would be put in place within 24 hours, with the appointment of a mediator and a senior official to contact the management of Renault, still on the basis of our demands, to know a plan with a resumption of cadences,

At the same time, while a follow-up meeting was held at the Ministry of the Economy on the situation of the automotive industry, the CGT metallurgy federation called for “

a moratorium on restructuring

” of the foundries. The union also called for a round table on the automotive sector bringing together "

all the players

" in the sector, but "

did not obtain satisfaction

", according to the secretary general of the CGT-Metallurgy, Frédéric Sanchez.

The government says it has "

limited breakage

" in the foundries and "

thinks it has done the job

", but "

its work will result in significant job losses on the sites of SAM, Fonderies de Bretagne, Fonderies du Poitou and on the MBF in the Jura, and other foundries are strongly impacted,

”he denounces. According to the CGT, "

foundries have a future in France

" and "

consider today that it is the end of the heat engine

" in the automobile and that "

everything will go electric in both - the next three years is an aberration

”.
