It will measure 36 meters high and will be located, as the crow flies, only 8.2 kilometers from the summit of Puy-de-Dôme, the highest point of the Chaîne des Puys - Limagne fault, listed on the list of Unesco World Heritage since 2018.
A relay antenna of the operator Free is soon to be installed in Berzet, in the town of Saint-Gènes-Champanelle, a village nestled in the Volcans d'Auvergne regional natural park.
The case, locally, is taken very seriously because neither the inhabitants, nor the elected officials, do not want to see grow this giant mast which would completely distort the surrounding landscape, according to them.
Homes less than 100 meters away
A collective was formed to prevent this installation and find the best solution for everyone.
“Le Berzet is located on a plateau where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Puy-de-Dôme.
What we denounce is the lack of landscape integration of this branch but also its proximity to homes which are less than 100 meters away ”, protest Aurélien Nibau and Philippe Gioani, representatives of the association for the defense of owners of Berzet.
Determined to install its antenna, Free decided for its part to pass in force and to rely on justice.
The file must be examined on May 8 by the administrative court of Clermont-Ferrand.
The inhabitants plan to file an appeal by then.
“The risk, by acting in this way, estimates the group of inhabitants, is that the Chaîne des Puys - Limagne fault will one day lose its registration with Unesco.
