Premier Benyamin Netanyahu has not fulfilled the mandate given to him by President Reuven Rivlin to form the new government. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, 05 MAY - Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has not fulfilled the mandate entrusted to him by President Reuven Rivlindi to form the new government. The 28-day deadline for composing a new executive expired at midnight (local time): in this time frame Netanyahu has not assembled the necessary majority of 61 out of 120 seats in the Knesset.

Now it will be up to Rivlin either to give an extension of another 14 days - but analysts do not think this is likely - or to give a new mandate. In this case we are talking about the opposition leader Yair Lapid but also about Naftali Bennett leader of Yamina (Right). Or he could get the ball back to the Knesset.
