The navigation app “Citymapper” could compete with the popular Google Maps app.

The functions of the app are now also possible in many German cities.

London - When you think of a navigation app, Google Maps immediately comes to mind.

The “Citymapper” app could be an alternative for some in the future.

The app is free and, compared to Google Maps, it offers more functions in terms of traffic options.

It is aimed primarily at people who frequently use public transport or who want to make use of modern offers such as e-scooters or car sharing.

However, so far the app is only available in large cities - and not all of them are included.

"Citymapper" navigation app: All driving options combined in one app - competition for Google?

The idea of the developers is to bundle all traffic options in one app.

This means that it is not only possible to navigate through the city by car, but the user is shown all traffic options to get to his destination.

On the one hand, of course, all public transport in the selected city.

On the other hand, tariffs for rental cars or taxis are also suggested.

What could be most interesting for many and which is currently beating Google Maps: The “Citymapper” app has also integrated modern offers such as e-scooters, car sharing, city bikes and the like.

To do this, the developers work together with the direct providers.

The app's partners include: Uber, FREE NOW, Getaround, Nextbike, BOND, StadtRAD, Tier, Voi and Emmy.

"Citymapper-App": Saving of desired stops and regular routes

With the "GO" button you will be guided step by step to your goal. Even if you are out and about with an e-scooter, bike or electric scooter from Emmy, the app always shows you an individual turn-by-turn navigation. The app has real-time information so that you can follow the route of the means of transport precisely. This makes it clear how much time you have left until the desired bus arrives at the bus stop, for example. The app also sends a notification when it is time to get out.

In order not to have to re-enter your destination every time, you can save your main route.

Individual, frequently visited stops can also be favored.

If there is a fault on one of the stored routes, this is highlighted with a message and current suggestions for a route change.

So far, the app is available in the following major German cities: Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Nuremberg, Hanover, Bremen, Mannheim.

More cities are to follow soon.
