In France, a woman has been gruesomely killed.
According to the police, a 44-year-old is suspected of having shot and then set fire to his partner early Tuesday evening.
The woman burned alive not far from her house on a street in the Mérignac residential area, west of Bordeaux.
According to the police, the alleged perpetrator is said to have initially followed the 31-year-old on the street and shot her legs with a rifle.
The victim fell, the man then poured a flammable liquid over her and set it on fire.
According to local media reports, the suspect was arrested by police shortly after the crime.
The judiciary is investigating intentional homicide.
According to the Attorney General Frédérique Porterie, the perpetrator was already known to the police for previous offenses.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2000, it said.
The mayor of Mérignac, Alain Anziani, said the woman's death caused "great excitement" in the community of 70,000 people.
The couple had three children, ages three, seven, and eleven.
According to newspaper reports, it was already separated but not yet divorced.
According to the police, the children were not at home at the time of the crime.
They were given psychological support.
