Use in favor of revoking patent protections on vaccines

The US has announced that it is in favor of the lifting of intellectual property protections for Covid vaccines, to accelerate the production and distribution of doses around the world.

"This is a global health crisis and the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic call for extraordinary measures," said US trade representative Katherine Tai in a statement, stating that Washington is "actively" participating in the ongoing negotiations at the WTO.

"The administration firmly believes in intellectual property protections but to put an end to this pandemic it supports the revocation of certain protections for Covid-19 vaccines", underlined Tai. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki had anticipated that Joe Biden was in favor of this revocation and Biden himself said he will talk about it in the next few hours.
