About the advancement BAföG
With the Aufstiegsfortbildungsförderungsgesetz (Aufstiegs-BAföG, AFBG for short), participants of all ages take part in
professional advancement training
measures
financially supported. The Aufstiegs-BAföG promotes the preparation for more than 700 advanced training qualifications such as master craftsman, business administrator, technician, educator or business economist. The participants receive a contribution to the costs of the advanced training regardless of their income and, in the case of full-time measures, an additional contribution to their living expenses depending on their income. The funding comes partly as a grant and partly as a low-interest KfW loan. Since the AFBG was founded (1996), around three million career advancements to managers, medium-sized companies and trainers for tomorrow's skilled workers have been made possible with funding totaling around ten billion euros. In 2019, around 167,000 people were supported with the AFBG. Further information is available at www.aufstiegs-bafög.de.
