Almost 4,000 deaths and more than 412,000 new cases in the last 24 hours: so India marks two new record figures regarding Covid

, which is spreading in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, the victims in the last day were 3,980, bringing the total to 230,168 since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are 412,262 new cases, which bring the overall figure to 21.1 million.

The Kerala government has announced a total lockdown from May

8-16 to address the severe rise in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Numerous restrictions were already in place in Kerala, but the newly re-elected governor Pinarayi Vijayan decided to proclaim the most radical measure, in light of the most recent data: yesterday the state of South India recorded the highest number of new cases in 24 hours, with 41,953 infections.

According to data from the ministry of health, the positivity rate in Kerala is 26.2 percent.

Nepal could be the next India, with Covid-19 cases soaring, hospitals overwhelmed by emergencies, a shortage of medical supplies, and the country's prime minister calling for help from other nations.

The Himalayan country, CNN reports, records about 20 daily cases 19 per 100,000 people, about the same number as India two weeks ago. In just one month, the country of 31 million people reported about 100 cases a day. There are now more than 8,600. Last weekend, 44% of the tests were positive, according to government data cited by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. "What is happening in India right now is a horrible preview of the future of Nepal if we fail to contain the latest wave of Covid," warned the president of the Nepalese Red Cross, Netra Prasad Timsina, quoted by the US broadcaster. .
