Ed Sheeran fulfilled a childhood dream at his favorite club.

The British singer and songwriter will be the shirt sponsor of the English third division soccer club Ipswich Town for one year.

The "Tractor Boys" and Sheeran announced this themselves.

The blue Ipswich shirt will be adorned with a series of mathematical symbols and the word "Tour" in the coming season.

"What it means will be disbanded in its time," said Sheeran, who will also sponsor the first women's team.

Sheeran, world-famous for hits like “Thinking Out Loud” and “Shape Of You”, has been an Ipswich fan since childhood.

He comes from close by, and he concluded his tour in 2019 with four concerts in front of a total of 160,000 fans in Ipswich.

"I've always enjoyed going to the Portman Road Stadium," he said, "and look forward to going back as soon as spectators are allowed again."

Ipswich Town was founded in 1878.

The club's greatest successes include the championship in 1961/1962, the FA Cup victory in 1978 and the triumph in the Uefa Cup in 1981. Most recently, the team was coached by the Scottish football legend Paul Lambert.

Ed Sheeran, Iron Maiden, Toten Hosen

Sheeran is not the first famous musician to enter into a cooperation with a traditional English club.

In 2019 West Ham United announced that it would promote the rock and metal band Iron Maiden in the future.

The collaboration was initiated by Maiden bassist Steve Harris, who has been a fan of the "Hammers" for more than 50 years.

In his youth he was active at West Ham United before he swapped football in favor of a musician career.

There has also been a similar cooperation in the Bundesliga.

In 2019, Fortuna Düsseldorf featured the Toten Hosen logo on its jerseys.

However, the short-term action did not bring luck: Fortuna lost the game 0: 4.
