(ANSA) - BEIJING, 07 MAY - China has stated that the risk of damage to Earth from the fallout of its rocket launched on 29 April to send the first module of the orbiting space station into space "is extremely low". Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin assured this after the United States warned that debris could crash into a built-up area.
"Most of the components will be destroyed by ablation upon reentry into the atmosphere and the likelihood of causing damage to activities or people on the ground is extremely low," Wang added.
"The likelihood of causing damage to aerial or (people and activities) on the ground is extremely low," he said again, speaking in the daily press conference, and noting that most of the components of the rock should be destroyed upon re-entry into the atmosphere and assuring them that authorities "will inform the public of the situation in a timely manner".
