(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 08 - Puppies of dogs of various breeds, including hounds, beavers and English setters were traveling on a van from Serbia to Italy, eight in a single cage, in conditions incompatible with animal welfare. Police from the Turin Crime Prevention Department rescued them at the former Sant'Andrea pass (Gorizia), reinforcing aggregates for checks, in collaboration with the border police, the Gorizia road and veterinarians from the local health company. The driver of the vehicle, an Italian already involved in a similar episode, was reported for the treatment of animals, while the dogs, 36 in all, were entrusted to the care of veterinarians. The police have ascertained the regular presence of passport and microchip only for some animals;others were without any identification data, as well as part of the health documentation required. Furthermore, the vehicle used was unsuitable for the transport of such a large number of animals. (HANDLE).
