(ANSA) - TRIPOLI, MAY 08 - Armed men made a demonstration of force last night in front of a hotel in Tripoli that serves as the headquarters of the Libyan Presidential Council.

Images posted on social media show dozens of armed men gathered in front of the Corinthia Hotel entrance.

The spokeswoman for the Presidential Council, Najwa Wheba, confirmed that there was a raid against "one of the seats where the Council meets" even though at the moment there were no representatives of the institution.

According to local media, the demonstration of strength by the militias in Tripoli aimed at protesting against the recent appeal by Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush for the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters stationed in the country.including Turkish troops.

Other media, as reported in a tweet from the Ean Libya website, have reduced the scope of the episode by claiming that the leaders of the "Volcano of anger" operation - the alliance of militias who in 2019 / '20 with Turkish help defended Tripoli from the failed attack by General Khalifa Haftar - they went to the Corinthia hotel to meet the presidential council and discuss "some issues".
