Seven people died in two avalanches in the French Alps. This was reported by local authorities who had warned against the instability of the snowpack due to the warmer temperatures.

The first mass of snow broke off in the late morning in the municipality of Valloire in the Col du Galibier sector located at 2,642 meters above sea level. For four people, aged between 42 and 76 and from the province of Grenoble, there was nothing they could do. The victims were part of a group of 5 hikers: only one of them survived. The second avalanche occurred in the afternoon in the Mont Pourri sector, at 3,779 meters in the Vanoise massif, on the other side of the municipality. Three people died, according to reports from the prefecture.

The authorities had warned yesterday against the risk of "particularly high" avalanches this weekend as temperatures have eased after heavy snowfalls on the mountains in recent days. (HANDLE).
