"It was a shameful thing that cut, but in fact, no one has seen those 15 minutes, not even me, and it's a real shame." (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 08 - "It was a shameful thing that cut, but in fact, no one has seen those 15 minutes, not even me, and it's a real shame". Speaking like this in an interview with ANSA is a passionate Paolo Taviani and the 15 minutes to which I refer are those of the third episode of 'Tu ridi', a 1998 film that told the disputed premiere of 'Six characters in search of 'author' by Luigi Pirandello whose centenary is celebrated on 9 May. With his brother Vittorio, who died in 2018, "we edited the whole film, but its duration, about two hours and five minutes, was considered excessive and so it was decided to cut. Yet it was telling a very beautiful and historical thing - says Paolo Taviani in a break in production. say 'Leonora, farewell',film taken from the novel of the same name by Pirandello - that is the fact that Lietta, daughter of the Sicilian playwright, had hidden away at the premiere of 'Six characters in search of an author' right in the Valley of Rome and had witnessed all the lean protests helplessly. Not only that, the girl then went out with her father from the theater and reached the carriage that would take them home while many ladies were throwing coins ".

As already told in 'La Sicilia' to Filippo Arriva, this unpublished material "was at a certain point recovered by the MoMA in New York for a review-event. The museum edited the film at its own expense and the film was screened. I believe - says the director - that a copy is still in their possession. When I looked for it in my archive I did not find it. I hope that Rai will recover it on the occasion of the centenary of 'Six characters in search of the author' ". And it would be desirable for this unpublished episode to arrive at an important festival like the Venice Film Festival.
