In two avalanche accidents in the French Alps, a total of seven people died on Saturday.
The first avalanche departure occurred in the late morning at Col du Galibier near the municipality of Valloire, as the prefecture of the Savoy department announced.
Accordingly, two hiking groups were carried away by the avalanche, four people between 42 and 76 years of age died.
One person survived the accident.
The second avalanche departure took place around 2 p.m. in the area of Mont Pourri in the Vanoise massif, also in the Savoy department.
According to the prefecture, three people died there.
In view of rising temperatures after heavy snowfall, the authorities had warned of a particularly high risk of avalanches this weekend.
A few days ago, five people were killed in two avalanches in the French Alps.
