On the eve of a new boost on the vaccination against Covid-19, open on Monday to those over 50, the health authorities have identified 116 additional deaths in French hospitals.

Throughout the week, the number of hospital deaths hovered between 200 and 300 per day, a declining rate.

In total, 106,422 people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic, the vast majority of older people, more fragile.

This Sunday, the critical care services (which bring together resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) welcomed 4,971 patients, against 5,005 on Saturday.

This indicator, monitored very closely by the health authorities, is slowly moving away from the bar of 6,000 patients exceeded on April 26, and from the alarming peak of the first wave of spring 2020 (around 7,000 patients).

In 24 hours, 124 new patients with severe forms of Covid were admitted to critical care services, compared to 191 the day before.

This downward trend is also observed for all hospitalizations, with a total of Covid patients amounting to 25,797, against 25,800 on Saturday.

Over 24 hours, 527 patients were admitted to hospitals, against 844 the day before.

20 million first-time vaccinated on May 17?

On the vaccine front, 17,814,854 people have received at least one injection, and 7,765,912 are fully vaccinated with two doses (i.e. 11.6% of the total population and 14.8% of the major population), according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

If the goal set by the government of 30 million French people vaccinated in mid-June remains uncertain, the bar of 20 million people who received at least one injection in mid-May (against more than 17.6 million currently) should be reached " May 17, ”says Doctolib boss Stanislas Niox-Chateau.

According to him, "we now vaccinate just in time" but "the limiting factor remains the number of doses".

Another brake, vaccination "two to three times" less "weekends and holidays", a tendency to fight with the approach of several bridges (Ascension, Pentecost), he insisted, also calling for to "rely more" on liberal doctors and pharmacists. The vaccination campaign could also suffer from the summer holidays, due to a lack of caregivers or the period of six to twelve weeks between two injections depending on the vaccines.
