A Catholic service with a rainbow flag on the altar: In the St. Benedict Church in Munich, a priest also blessed same-sex couples on Sunday afternoon - although the Vatican has clearly spoken out against it.
Christine Waltner
“Well, I found it very moving and touching that people from the Catholic Church are so brave to bless us here because it is not actually intended that way. And because the Catholic Church, the clergy, say that is actually not possible. And this way in which we live together, this way of life, yes, therefore not being blessed because it is seen as a sin. "
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith recently issued a categorical ban on blessing homosexual couples in the Vatican.
As a protest, there were Catholic blessing services for all loving couples across Germany on Sunday under the motto #Love wins.
Almut Münster
»I'm just really happy that there are more progressive thinking parts in the church. And that is something that I would very much like to support, and I am very grateful that they organized it today. And a blessing just somehow has a meaning for me. It is a very beautiful thing to be blessed as a couple and that this love is blessed. "
"And so I call to you: Go there, for you are a blessing."
Around a hundred communities took part in the protest over the weekend.
