In addition to the extensive investigations into the three-year-old Madeleine McCann who disappeared in 2007 in Praia da Luz, Portugal, the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office is conducting three further proceedings against the 44-year-old German Christian B. In these proceedings, he could initially be charged. It's about sexual crimes that the 44-year-old is said to have committed in Portugal. In 2004 B. raped the Irish girl Hazel B. in her holiday apartment, and in 2007 molested a ten-year-old girl from Germany on the beach. In addition, the public prosecutor's office is investigating the sexual abuse of four children on the sidelines of a festival in São Bartolomeu de Messines in 2017.
The children called their parents because a man had exposed himself in front of them.
The police who were called arrested Christian B. on the spot and learned that there was an international arrest warrant for another criminal offense against him: he was extradited to Germany and convicted of raping a 72-year-old American woman.
Caught in action
Since he was caught red-handed at the festival, the evidence is relatively solid.
The investigation should continue for a few months.
"If a sufficient suspicion of a crime is affirmed in several cases, it must be checked whether it would be appropriate to bring charges together," says Christian Wolters, spokesman for the Braunschweig public prosecutor.
Christian B.'s lawyer did not want to comment on the investigation.
The three-year-old Madeleine disappeared from a holiday resort in Praia da Luz on May 3, 2017.
The parents Kate and Gerry McCann gave a series of spectacular interviews and called across Europe to search for their daughter.
At a general audience in Rome, the then Pope Benedict XVI blessed the parents and a photo of the girl.
In the meantime, the parents themselves came under suspicion of being responsible for the disappearance of their daughter.
Witness incriminated Christian B.
In June last year it became known that the German police were investigating Christian B. in the case of the missing Madeleine McCann.
An acquaintance imprisoned in Greece incriminated Christian B. in an extensive testimony.
Accordingly, the sex offender with a criminal record for child abuse admitted to him that he was involved in the girl's disappearance.
Christian B.'s cell phone was logged into the radio network of Praia da Luz shortly before it disappeared.
The police have not yet received any evidence that B. was at the holiday complex and kidnapped Madeleine McCann from her bed.
Christian B. denies the act.
