Fraternity Normannia in Heidelberg

After an alleged anti-Semitic attack in the fraternity “Normannia”, the Heidelberg public prosecutor applied for penal orders.
A statement said that six of the original ten suspects had been requested to submit penalties to the district court for dangerous bodily harm and physical abuse.
The required penalties range from a fine of 90 daily rates to a prison sentence of ten months with probation.
In August 2020, the accused allegedly insulted and physically insulted a then 25-year-old member of another Heidelberg student union in the fraternity's fraternity house because of his grandmother of Jewish origin.
They would have hit the man with belts and pelted him with coins.
The investigations against four other accused had been discontinued.
According to the public prosecutor's office, their involvement in the act appears possible, but is not sufficiently verifiable.
In addition, more than ten other investigations were set on suspicion of politically motivated crimes such as sedition or Holocaust denial.
This is due to the fact that either a criminal complaint by the injured party was missing or it could not be established that the incidents took place in public.
The fraternity "Normannia" was founded in 1890 by its own account.
A few days after the incident in August 2020, the connection announced the termination of their Aktivitas.
These are the members who are still studying.
In addition, the fraternity publicly distanced itself from anti-Semitism.
The fraternity still exists, however, the members who have completed their studies are called "old men".
According to the "Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung", its members include AfD politician Christian Wirth and the author of "Junge Freiheit", Michael Kurt Paulwitz, who ran for the right-wing extremist Republicans.
