Instagram is more attentive to the needs of inclusiveness.
The social network will allow its users to insert pronouns (including "he", "she" and "them") on their profile to make their gender identity clear.
Users can decide whether to make pronouns publicly viewable or to reserve them only for followers;
for underage users this last setting will be automatically valid.
Once set, pronouns will appear in a lighter color on the profile page, next to the user's name, and can be removed at any time if the user deems it.
If Instagram subscribers think there are missing pronouns, they can send a request to the social network by filling out an ad hoc form.
For the moment, Instagram has made it known, through a tweet, that the news will be available in "a few countries", without specifying which ones.
Instagram is not the first platform to introduce a feature of this type, the parent company Facebook, the dating site OKCupid and even LinkedIn have already thought of it.
Even the White House website, a few hours after Joe Biden took office, allowed users to choose their own pronouns with which to register.
