Broccoli: how to grow the vegetables for the garden
If you want to prefer broccoli from seeds yourself, do so early.
Early varieties are
preferred from January to March in seed boxes on the windowsill or in the cold frame
.
This requires humus-rich sowing soil and a temperature of 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.
The seeds are placed about an inch deep in the earth and watered well.
As soon as the seeds start to germinate, the seedlings are pricked out into individual pots about five centimeters in size.
A total of up to 30 days can pass before the seeds develop into a seedling that can be planted outside.
How to plant broccoli in the garden
From April or May, when the seedlings are about ten centimeters tall, the broccoli is put outdoors.
The distance between the plants is 50 by 50 centimeters
.
With a fleece you can protect the small plants from frost.
If you are dealing with pests, however, a vegetable net will help.
Alternatively, you can also sow broccoli directly into the bed from mid to late May.
You press seeds about an inch deep at a loose distance into the earth.
As soon as the seeds have germinated, isolate the young plants so that there is a distance of 40 centimeters between them.
