Javier Lafuente, deputy director of the American edition, is coordinating this project: “We are working to decipher what we call an unknown border of America, the strip that separates Mexico from Guatemala, from Central America, a border that we worked on two years ago and that even today, in 2021, it continues to be newsworthy ”.

The EL PAÍS newsroom in Mexico is the heart of the American edition of the newspaper from which Lafuente works.
But the deputy director warns that they do not lose sight of the wealth of the continent: "You cannot treat the Colombian reality as you treat the Mexican reality or the day-to-day life of Argentina."
However, he defends "common responses" based on the foundational ethical principles of the newspaper.
Although EL PAÍS was born with a European vocation, in its development it could not and did not want to ignore America.
Today it has journalists not only in Mexico, but also in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina or the United States, as well as exclusive digital editions for America and Mexico.
The new edition
of the Style Book
, "like the Bible for writing", includes the aspiration of a global newspaper with a special Latin American vision.
"Someone who wants to read THE COUNTRY in America is going to do so because they know that these are our bases, our principles, and what they are looking for within a deep and exhaustive quality information as possible," concludes the deputy director.
