Paternity leave: what will change on July 1

A decree published in the "Official Journal" on Wednesday increases the duration of paternity leave from fourteen to twenty-eight days.

".

Fathers of children born on or after July 1 will no longer be able to benefit from fourteen but twenty-eight days of leave.

The provisions of the text will also apply to children born before this date but whose term of pregnancy was fixed after.

Any worker, regardless of their contract, can take this paternity leave.

Seven mandatory days after birth

In all, paternity leave is reduced from eleven days to twenty-five, in addition to the three days of birth leave provided for by the labor code.

In fact, the employer will be obliged to grant a seven-day leave to the young parent, "

This period combines the three immutable days granted for the birth of the child and four days of paternity leave.

A leave to be divided

The new leave is intended to be more flexible than the previous one.

While the latter must necessarily be taken at one time and within four months after a birth, fathers of children born after July 1 will have the opportunity to split it "

into two periods of a minimum duration of five days each

”, during the first six months after birth.

It is up to the employee to inform his employer of the expected delivery date “

Similar indemnities

As for compensation, nothing is changing.

The employer pays for the first three days following the birth.

The daily allowances received for the remainder of the paternity leave vary according to the father's salary.

They range from 9.66 euros to a ceiling set by Social Security at 89.03 euros per day.

These same allowances may be paid for a maximum period of twenty-five days or thirty-two days, in the event of multiple births.
