In Great Britain, the reputation of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan has already suffered badly after an interview about alleged racism in the British royal family.
But the 36-year-old, who said goodbye to his royal duties with his wife a little over a year ago, continues to unpack about the darker side of life as the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II.
Harry said in a new episode of the podcast "Armchair Expert" that he was happy that he could lead a largely normal life after moving to the USA.
It is a heavy burden to be part of the royal family.
His life as a member of the Royal Family in Great Britain was "like a mixture of 'The Truman Show' and a zoo," he said.
In the 1998 film "The Truman Show", the main character played by Jim Carrey does not know that she is part of a television series and that her life has been accompanied by actors in a setting since she was born.
With his current wife Meghan Markle, he initially pretended they didn't know each other in the supermarket, Harry said.
He discussed purchases with the now 39-year-old, standing in different aisles, via SMS.
He was often on the move with his head bowed and his cap down in order to remain undetected as possible.
"I don't want this job"
In his new home, California, he can now live more freely, he is no longer so tense and he can ride around on his bike with his two-year-old son Archie.
In the UK, Harry said, “I would never have had the chance to do that.
Living here means that I can lift my head and actually feel different. "
Harry said he was thinking about retiring from his royal duties in his twenties.
He and Meghan finally took this step a little over a year ago - and moved the center of their lives to California.
They are expecting another child, a girl, this summer.
The prince emphasized that he wanted to break the cycle of "pain and suffering" in the upbringing of children.
He experienced that himself, as did his parents.
The move to the USA was not planned.
"But sometimes you have to make decisions and put your family first and your sanity first."
He feared that his pregnant wife and son would be in the limelight and suffer as much as his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36. She had been followed by paparazzi before the accident. "I don't want this job, I don't want to be here, I don't want to do this," Harry said. "Look what it did to my mother."
After withdrawing from his royal duties, the royal family turned off the money for the couple, according to Prince Harry.
Because his mother left him money, the two could have afforded the exit.
Now Harry and the former actress Meghan are trying to get started in the media, among other things.
