The mayor of the Hessian city of Dieburg, Frank Haus, had a truck load of chippings distributed at the local skate park.

He wanted to push through the corona protective measures and prevent groups of young people from meeting or skating there.

However, many people were upset about this action.

Now parents and young people have freed the skate park in Dieburg from the gravel themselves, as reported by several media, including the radio station FFH.

On Twitter, a user posted a picture of the cleaned place with small piles of gravel.

Somebody wrote on the floor: "Greetings to the mayor".

Apparently angry citizens also distributed gravel in front of the town hall.

It is unclear exactly who is behind the cleanup.

The city of Dieburg is not aware of this, according to a message from Mayor Frank Haus: "However, the majority of the cases are said to have been people who do not come from Dieburg."

A clean-up campaign had been called on Facebook and also in the "lateral thinker" scene.

In the Telegram channel of the »lateral thinkers« Darmstadt it was said, for example: »How about a joint 'sweeping up' of the rubbish that the Dieburg city authorities have had our children cart off?

See you Thursday at the skate park!

(And brings brooms, shovels and wheelbarrows). "

Due to the lower incidence, the city decided to only send the police to clean up, but not to intervene, said Mayor Haus.

When asked, the police did not want to comment on who had tidied up and whether "lateral thinkers" were involved in the action.

The clean-up was peaceful, and nobody broke the rules of distance.

Despite massive criticism, Mayor Haus continues to defend the decision to distribute the gravel.

During the closure of the square, the contact restrictions were only occasionally violated.

The police should now continue to monitor whether the young people on the square adhere to the corona protective measures.
