Two tornadoes have left a trail of devastation in China: the storms in the east and in the center of the country killed at least twelve people and injured more than 400 more, according to the authorities on Saturday.

Around 30 houses collapsed in the metropolis of Wuhan, and 26,000 households there were without electricity.

With winds of more than 260 kilometers per hour, one of the tornadoes hit Wuhan on Friday.

According to the authorities, eight people were killed and 280 others injured in the metropolis.

Initially, the authorities in Wuhan reported six deaths.

Suzhou in the east of the country was also badly hit

The storm threw objects through the air, some of which crashed into cars.

Trees were torn from the earth.

A great deal of damage was caused when a crane damaged by the strong wind tipped over onto a construction site.

Another tornado with wind speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour caused severe damage in the nearby city of Suzhou.

According to local authorities, four people were killed there and another is missing.
