The fighting in southern Afghanistan resumed today after the end of the three-day ceasefire agreed between the Taliban and Afghan forces and entered into force last Thursday, the authorities announced.
According to an Afghan military spokesman and a local official, there are clashes between Taliban and Afghan forces on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, capital of the Helmand province. Here the fighting has been going on intensely since May 1st, that is after the start of the definitive withdrawal of US forces from the country. "There have been clashes between the Taliban and government forces in Helmand with the end of the ceasefire," said the head of the Helmand provincial council, Attaullah Afghan.
