Listening to Léonard Lasry's latest album, well seated in his chair and record cover in hand, we can see the character's duality.
Au Hasard ce espoir
(29 Music label), his latest CD, is a collection of nuanced songs, with pretty lyrics in French and carefully orchestrated. This delicacy contrasts with his physique of a Greco-Roman wrestler, revealed by the cover of the disc where he poses entirely painted in gold leaf. Both wise and whimsical in short! Even if the singer-songwriter claims most seriously "
not to be an eccentric
". His art is also multiple. He imagines tunes on which the dancers of Crazy Horse Paris sway, just as he composes music for the Dior parades.
He composed this album on the Amalfi Coast, between Positano and Capri, a region that will undoubtedly have inspired him with the very Mediterranean, not to say sunny, tones of the record. Emotions surface in texts written in close collaboration with Elisa Point, where it is about her discoveries, such as that, very recent, of fortune telling. As a child, he only dreamed of classical music, and it was only as a teenager that he succumbed to the charms of variety, in which his fertile imagination shines, associated with a real talent as a melodist. He says it bluntly: "
writing a song seems easy to me
". Do not see any pretension in this observation: Léonard Lasry remains simple, as evidenced by his frank and direct contacts with his audience during his concerts. Growing up, he kept his freshness and spontaneity intact, like, one might say, a Jean-Paul Gaultier. This new album is a fine example of his musical aesthetic which combines nuance and energy.
