They ransacked offices and stole a 200 kilogram safe: thieves broke into the town hall in the Lower Bavarian town of Tittling at the weekend.

The police are now looking for witnesses.

The town hall of the administrative association Tittling stands in the middle of the small resort.

So actually someone should have noticed that several thieves were busy there over the weekend.

So far, however, it is even unclear when exactly the break-in should have happened.

As the police in Straubing announced, the burglars had pried open a window in the administration building in the district of Passau at the weekend and then ransacked several offices.

Two safes were forcibly opened.

Another 200 kilogram safe was roped out of one of the windows and taken away in a vehicle.

According to the information, there were documents, data carriers, cash and other items in the vault.

The total damage was estimated to be in the low five-digit range.

The Passau Criminal Police took over the investigation and secured traces on site.

The investigators are now asking for information from the population.

Anyone who has observed suspicious activity between Friday at 12 p.m. and Sunday at 5.30 p.m. is asked to report to the Passau Criminal Police Inspectorate.
